 1970 Olds Cutlass SX   

Dan Anderson's 70 Olds Cutlass SX 455.  This car has recently arrived at CPR for a mechanical rebuilt and detail.

The frame will come off the car for a complete rebuild of the suspension and refinish such as powdercoating of the frame and suspension components. The 455 will also be rebuilt while the chassis is out.

Here is the completed 455 back in the SX. The engine has been rebuilt and upgraded to W30 specs.

The first order of business will be to remove the front clip.

All of the existing panel gaps should be documented before any disassembly is begun.

The body is off the frame. We found this car to be remarkably clean, straight and rust free.  The next step will be to clean the floor of the car and address any needed work.

 

The cars frame was equally clean and rust free. It will now be completely disassembled. The frame itself and most of the suspension components will be sent to powdercoating.

The series of photos below show the cars progress through the restoration of the chassis. The last photos in this series shows the bare frame ready to go to the powdercoater. It's uphill from here.

Follow along below as the restored chassis comes together. The first photo shows the frame as it comes back from the powdercoater.

Care is always taken when cleaning and detailing original parts to preserve any factory markings, such as the OLDS lettering on the heater box. Care is also taken to preserve the original surface finish of the parts. In this case it is the heater box which had been spray painted black. It was brought back to it's original natural finish.

The same care was taken to preserve the original green inspection marking on this spindle.
